CAPNI Region 12

Thank You

Posted almost 7 years ago by Kathryn Miley

Just wanted to send a quick note to all that wrote my name in for re-nomination of District 12 Director.  I am truly honored!  I initially did not plan on seeking re-election because I am in medical school and very busy studying. When asked I did accept the nomination and will remain as your District 12 Director.

Last term, my goal included increasing membership.  Although I do not feel like I held enough meetings and membership 'contests' and membership functions, the overall goal of increasing membership was sucessful.  Our district went from 21 active members to 33 active members!  Thank you to all who recruited, joined, participated and helped in any way.

This term's goal has been set to increase networking.  I am thinking of holding monthly (or every other month) Saturday morning breakfast networking meetings.  I do not always have a specific idea of discussion, but networking is important in our careers.  Anyone interested??  The cost of breakfast would be on your own but the valve of networking may be priceless.

As far as CAPNI updates, here's what I know:

       1) Retiring the Collaborative Agreement--this bill did not make it out of the house last year.  Unfortunate as it seems, we are trying again this year.  Membership and involvement now with legislation is vital.  Please feel free to meet with legislation from your house or senate.  If you would like a follow CAPNI member to go with you, please contact me.  If I can not go, I can ask other CAPNI members to go with you.  I have called and emailed my own house and senate reps and no reply yet.  But it is vital that they know who we are.  To assist with this, Jan 30 is the white coat day at the Capital building in Indianapolis.  Best part--it's FREE!!  What a great way to get involved. CAPNI requires you register, wear a white coat and will provide lunch for all.  The representatives come to the roundunta and meet/greet the CAPNI representatives from their district.  Last year, my respresentative's aide took a pic and they placed it in the newpaper.  Good advertisement for her and APN!

       2) Conferences--The annual CAPNI conference is in February.  Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16 are the dates.  Love your loved one the day prior (Valentines Day), then come learn so you can offer more love to your patients. Historically, this conference has had some outstanding speakers with great content relavent to practicing in Indiana.  Registeration is open at the CAPNI website.

       3)  MONEY--a very important topic.  If you are a PhD or DNP student, the Debra Brock Memorial Scholarship application is open.  $1000 for a luck soul to go to school.  Last year, District 12's own Theresa Fullenkamp won the money.  Let's keep it in our district.  Applications are due April 1.

Please let me know if I can help anyone in any way.  If someone wants to cordinate a networking meeting, I would be open to letting someone schedule/cordinate a meeting.  Just let me know.  And again, thank you for trusting me for another two-year term as your district director.
